First Steps in Irish Research Revisited

Before a speaking engagement, I take the time to check all the links and screenshots in the presentation and its handout. In addition to checking that the materials up-to-date, this gives me time to review what is new or changed about the topic. It also gives me a chance to view my own research with fresh eyes.

Although the recommended strategy described in the previous post has not changed, there have been some updated websites and news.

The 1926 Irish Census will come online this month! It will appear on Ireland's National Archive website at https://nationalarchives.ie on Saturday, 18 April 2026! The significance of this census is that it was the first one taken after the Irish Free State had been established. Remember to search for records and connections on this side of the Pond (Atlantic) before making the jump to Irish records. Treasure the cousins you meet along the way!
